A seething flood of tooth, blade and brazen green flesh, the Greenskins make up the most barbaric and prolific raiding force in the Old World. Rather than a single race, they are a conglomeration of smaller sub-races, banded together by their like-minded brutality, lack of intelligence and lust for carnage. Mobs of Savage Orcs roam the Badlands plains while Night Goblins move unseen in the deep tunnels of the Underway. Whenever the feeling takes them they pour out in earth-shaking numbers to plunder other Race’s settlements, invaders to the end. After slaughtering the occupants, they daub the walls in crude graffiti, settling amongst the corpses until restless green fingers start itching for bloodshed once more. Greenskins lack any form of government, subscribing instead to a ‘might-makes-right’ ideology that sets the nastiest and sneakiest firmly at the top of the pecking order. Orcs, brutish and aggressive make up the ruling class. Goblins, malevolent and cunning, are subjugated by the Orcs in exchange for their begrudging protection. Trolls, Giants and other fell creatures are easily coerced to join their cause with the promise of battle, loot and a few of the weaker goblins thrown their way as a tasty snack. The variety and versatility of Greenskin armies and the brute strength of their warriors more than makes up for what they lack in intelligence and diplomacy.

Endlessly seeking out conflict both within and without, Greenskin hordes roam from the Old World in search of worthy opponents to stomp into the ground. At the head of each is a Warboss. The only way to earn this rank is to murder the current Warboss. As such it is a title earned by only the biggest and nastiest Orcs of the lot. Greenskins live to fight, and if their Warboss cannot sate their appetite for battle, their numbers will dwindle as infighting takes hold. When word spreads of a truly might Warboss however, momentum builds quickly. With each successive victory, more and more Greenskin mobs join the horde. Eventually, these patchwork armies merge to become a WAAAGH! – An unstoppable Green tide that leaves nothing but ruin in its wake.

Campaign Designer Eva Jobse shares some details on how you develop technologies within Total War: WARHAMMER.

Each Race has access to their own specific technology tree, where players can pick and choose upgrades that improve their faction in one of many ways. As all Races are culturally unique, nothing shows their differences better than their technology tree, as the amount of technologies and the ways to unlock them vary significantly.

Back when we originally announced Total War: WARHAMMER, we explained that we wouldn’t be able to support the game with official mod tools, as unlike other TW games, it wasn’t just our game we were making this time.

However, as of May 2016, both Creative Assembly and Games Workshop announced that they were now allowing both the Assembly Kit and Steam Workshop added to the game for the launch.

In this devblog, campaign designer Eva Jobse will talk more about each of the factions’ early game experiences and the available difficulty levels in Total War: WARHAMMER.

When we started designing Total War: WARHAMMER, we were aiming to create the most approachable Total War game yet, while simultaneously making it the most challenging one as well. A frequently heard paradigm in the games industry is making games that are easy to learn and hard to master. While strategy games are already a genre of games that typically have quite a bit of complexity associated with it, we did strive to make Total War: WARHAMMER more intuitive to understand than its predecessors.

We shook up the standard Total War formula of Agents and Generals, and wove characters more deeply into campaign and battle. There’s also a shedload of customisation options for them, including deeper skill trees, and a mix of common and legendary weapons, armour, items and mounts to equip them with.

We all know the ruinous effects that Chaos corruption can bring to the landscape of the Old World, so Campaign Designer Eva Jobse spoke to us about a more subtle and sinister form of corruption: Vampiric influence.

Vampires are corrupt creatures by nature, their undead bodies sustained by Dark Magic and the blood of their victims. It is the nature of Dark Magic to be drawn to itself, and as more and more of these foul energies accumulate, the land itself becomes blighted and accursed. Trees wither and a miasma of balefire smoke rolls across the landscape. Skies darken and the spirits of the dead stir, shrieking and clawing at any living trespassers that dare venture into these wretched lands.

The Chaos Warriors Race Pack brought a new race with its own new Legendary Lords, units, mounts, items, quest chains and mechanics to Total War™: WARHAMMER®.

Lay waste to the Old World as the dreaded Chaos Warriors. This Pack includes a full roster of bloodthirsty units, terrifying mounts and monstrous creatures. Lead the corrupted Chaos hordes as one of three new playable Legendary Lords. Embrace the Ruinous Powers as you embark on brand new quest chains, unlocking powerful items and gaining glory in the name of the dark Chaos Gods.

Total War: WARHAMMER is available in the standard edition, Limited Edition and the extremely rare High King Edition. In addition, February 2017 saw the release of the Old World Edition.

OLD WORLD EDITION FAQ

In February 2017 we released a new edition of Total War: WARHAMMER with selected high street retailers. The big news is that it came with a new playable race – Bretonnia. Why should you care if you already own Total War: WARHAMMER? Because you can download the Bretonnia Race Pack for free then too!

A contrast of lowly peasant masses and proud knightly orders, the feudal kingdom of Bretonnia features a host of powerful units and is lead into battle by a choice of three playable Legendary Lords; King Louen Leoncoeur, Alberic of Bordeleaux and the Fay Enchantress.
